What is Bhuttico?
Bhuttico, officially known as the Bhutti Weavers Cooperative Society, is a renowned handloom weaving cooperative based in the Kullu Valley of Himachal Pradesh, India. Established on December 18, 1944, by a group of 12 progressive weavers, Bhuttico has become synonymous with high-quality Kullu shawls and other handwoven products made from Australian wool, pashmina, and Angora yarn.
Initially, Bhuttico struggled to gain momentum until 1956, when Mr. Ved Ram Thakur, a skilled weaver and visionary, joined the cooperative. His leadership transformed Bhuttico from a dormant organization into a thriving market leader in the shawl industry. Today, Bhuttico is recognized both in India and internationally for its exquisite craftsmanship and dedication to preserving traditional weaving techniques.
Bhuttico's products are not only popular with Indian customers but are also exported to countries like Belgium, France, Great Britain, Russia, Japan, China, Spain, and USA. The cooperative operates 31 outlets across India and holds an ISO 9001:2015 certificate for quality, ensuring that its products meet international standards.
Over the years, Bhuttico has received numerous accolades, including the National Award Gold in 1993 and the Udyog Ratna Award in 2005, highlighting its contributions to the textile industry and the welfare of its weavers.
In summary, Bhuttico is a leading handloom weaving cooperative with a rich history, known for its high-quality Kullu shawls and commitment to weaver welfare. If you’re wondering, “what is Bhuttico?”—it’s a symbol of excellence in Indian handloom weaving and a testament to the enduring legacy of traditional craftsmanship.
